Question: What is Somerville Animal Control's policy regarding stray cats?
Answer: Under Massachusetts General Laws, municipalities are obligated to impound dogs and to hold them for 10 days. Currently, there is no statutory obligation for municipalities to house cats. However, in some extreme situations animal control will place a stray, abandoned or unwanted cat depending on the resources available to us at the time.
Please note: We will take litters of kittens born to outdoor stray/feral cats if they are under 8 weeks of age.
