Question: What is the Somerville Commission for Women?
Answer: The Somerville Commission for Women (SCW) is an appointed group of Commissioners who meet monthly about issues related to women.
The Commission:
- monitors issues,
- advocates to and on behalf of women,
- educates, and
- outreaches to the community.
The SCW has an Executive Director, within the Health Department, who supervises and co-facilitates Teens Against Dating Abuse at Somerville High School (TADA), convenes the Somerville Domestic Violence Taskforce, designs and facilitates trainings, creates and manages programs, writes grants, hosts and co-produces the Somerville Women Today television program on the City's channels 15 and 16, speaks on behalf of the Commission, and participates on city-wide, Greater Boston, and New England level taskforces and networks.
